Milwaukee Arts Board could lose 75% of funding

Perhaps some of you have heard that the 2010 City of Milwaukee Budget includes a sizable cut to the Milwaukee Arts Board, which has very small funding to begin with. According to Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Art Critic Mary Louise Schumacher:

The mayor seeks to cut $110,000 from the $160,000 that was allocated in 2009. This would result in the loss of an additional $25,000 in matching dollars from the Wisconsin Arts Board.

(you can read Ms. Schumacher's entire blog post about the matter here.)

If you are as disheartened as I am about this, please feel free to attend a public hearing held by the Common Council and the mayor at 6 p.m. TODAY in the Common Council Chambers on the third floor of City Hall, 200 E. Wells St. You can also contact the mayor's office - just click here.

Check out Chamber Theatre's blog!

The fine folks at Milwaukee Chamber Theatre want you all to know that they have a blog too!

http://www.mkechamber.blogspot.com/

Cool, huh? Currently writing about their production of PICNIC are actors Andrew Voss & Emily Vitrano and directing intern Jonathan Zautner.

Soon (read: once one of us has time), we'll compile a list of Milwaukee-area theatre blogs and put them in the right-hand column of the website. There's a lot of cool stuff going on out there on the interwebs related to Milwaukee theatre!

Hi, there!

I don’t get to do this too often . . . but I have a very rare opportunity to invite folks into to see our great new production SOULTIME AT THE APOLLO for tomorrow night’s performance at 8:00. The show is selling well but we have a lighter house tomorrow night that we would like to fill up. I have a limited number of tickets that I can offer. So if you’re interested, act fast!

Thanks!

Cindy

P.S. Here’s an interview with the director: SOULTIME and the Journal review

Wooo Skylight!

The Skylight is trying to raise an additional $50,000 before September 18th. If we contribute to this campaign we are also helping Renaissance Theaterworks, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, and Milwaukee Children’s Choir because those companies perform in the Broadway Theatre Centre. (Did you know the Skylight OWNS the BTC? I didn't until Patrick told me one day).

Think about it. If all 46 of us donate $10, that's $460. Now, if we get our family & friends to contribute too... I think we can raise much more for the Skylight.
